ONE-OF-A-KIND · HAND-PAINTED ORIGINAL

This paper-pulp horse reinterprets Vietnamese culture through a contemporary language of form and colour. Its intentionally imperfect proportions and expressive surface give the work a distinctive character.

Material & Process

The sculpture is made from Giang paper pulp, a traditional material associated with the H’mông community in Hòa Bình. Giang bamboo is boiled, soaked, beaten into fibres and dried to produce the pulp traditionally used for handmade paper.

The pulp is blended with fine clay and shaped by hand. The surface is then prepared, lacquer-ground, painted in multiple layers and repeatedly sanded, creating depth, texture and tonal variation.

The Beauty of Imperfection

The design embraces the idea that beauty can be found in imperfection. Subtle irregularities are retained as part of the artistic language and the mark of the maker’s hand.

One-of-a-Kind

Each sculpture is individually shaped and hand-painted. There is no second piece identical to this work. Variations in colour, texture and surface are inherent to the handmade process.
