ONE-OF-A-KIND · HAND-PAINTED ORIGINAL

This paper-pulp horse brings Vietnamese craft into a contemporary setting through expressive colour, simplified forms and deliberately imperfect proportions.

Giang Paper Pulp & Lacquer Craft

The sculpture is made from Giang paper pulp, a traditional material associated with the H’mông community in Hòa Bình. Giang bamboo is processed into fibres and dried before being used as paper pulp.

The pulp is blended with fine clay to create the sculptural body. The work then passes through repeated stages of shaping, surface preparation, lacquer-ground treatment, hand painting, layering and sanding, creating a richly textured surface with depth and variation.

The Beauty of Imperfection

The horse deliberately avoids perfect symmetry and conventional proportions. Its irregularities are part of the visual language, expressing the idea that imperfection can become a distinctive form of beauty.

One-of-a-Kind

Each sculpture is individually shaped and hand-painted. There is no second piece identical to this work. Every colour transition, surface and detail is developed by hand.
