This paper-pulp horse is created from the cultural foundations of traditional Vietnam and reinterpreted through a contemporary visual language. Its deliberately imperfect silhouette and expressive surface give the work a distinctive character.

Vietnamese Heritage, Reimagined

The sculpture is made from Giang paper pulp, a traditional material associated with the H’mông community in Hòa Bình. Giang bamboo is boiled, soaked, beaten into fibres and dried to create the pulp traditionally used for handmade paper.

The pulp is blended with fine clay and shaped by hand. The work is then surface-prepared, lacquer-ground, painted in layers and repeatedly sanded by hand, creating depth, texture and tonal richness.

The Beauty of Imperfection

The work is based on the idea that beauty can be found in imperfection. Subtle irregularities are intentional and reflect the marks of the human hand.

One-of-a-Kind

Each sculpture is individually shaped and hand-painted. There is no second piece identical to this work. Variations in colour, texture and surface are inherent to the creative process.
