Held from now until March 31 at the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum, the exhibition "Art is Long, Life is Short" features over 100 works by 6 artists: Phan Cam Thuong, Nguyen Van Trinh, Trieu Khac Tien, Vu Van Tich, Nguyen Quang Trung, and Nguyen Dinh Son.
When art is a resting place
Visitors have the opportunity to explore 6 different exhibition spaces, each reflecting the unique style of an artist. The diversity of materials, from lacquer, silk, oil, and acrylic, along with rich inspirations for creative ideas...
All are harmonized into a series of colorful and emotional experiences, meticulously arranged by The Muse Artspace in each space.
This is also the intention of the curator and researcher Van Vi for the exhibition. She hopes that amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life, art, and especially painting, can become a resting place, a point of repose.
Slowly moving through the 6 spaces, immersing themselves in the artists' creative world, people will have moments to experience the emotional changes within themselves.

Prominently displayed in the main hall of the museum is a collection of silk paintings depicting ancient Vietnamese culture by artist Phan Cam Thuong.
He is known as a researcher, author of 18 books specializing in ancient culture and fine arts, and also an artist with a distinctive, unique style.
His works are inspired by ancient life, stories of village activities, communal houses, temples, social life, and a nostalgic fondness for past memories.
The exhibition also introduces for the first time a series of abstract paintings created by Pham Cam Thuong over time but never officially presented to the public.
His "geometric abstract" paintings still carry a subtle, ancient, distinctly East Asian impression, yet also open up many dimensions of modern space with delicately composed proportions.
Deeper into the interior space, the multi-dimensional "Living Zone" works by artist Nguyen Van Trinh transport viewers into a multi-dimensional, colorful imaginary world, imbued with a primitive, wild quality.
It is a world with many natural powers where myriad creatures exist perfectly intact, a private paradise created by the artist, in contrast to the reality that is gradually being destroyed.Advertisement

Living fully with change
As the only PhD in fine arts practice specializing in lacquer painting in Vietnam, artist Trieu Khac Tien is exploring a new abstract style in lacquer painting.
His paintings offer a freer, more open perspective for both the artist and the viewer with unique, modern visual effects, while retaining the profound depth, splendor, and sophistication of traditional vermilion, gold, and resin materials.
Meanwhile, his student, artist Vu Van Tich, presents lacquer works that preserve the emotions of youth. Tich's paintings exude the vibrant vitality of exquisitely beautiful and brilliant flowers and plants, with thin, multi-colored layers on the surface and a deep, transparent metallic background.
Tich is highly regarded for his technique in handling traditional Vietnamese lacquer and his expressive artistic methods. He is also on a journey of self-negation to find new directions for his artistic development.

His style is not considered outdated but is developing and keeping pace with contemporary trends, as delicate as ink wash painting yet powerful and full of vitality.
According to curator Van Vi, the common thread among the six artists is their dedication to artistic passion and their strong commitment to change. All of them constantly explore, research, and invest time in discovering new ways to reinvent themselves and create valuable contemporary artistic creations .
